Andrew Marcus Visuals

Andrew Marcus began drawing at the age of three. He entered the Cooper Union School of Art in 1976, where he spent four years studying painting, drawing, and photography. In 1980 he left CU without a degree and began studying dance and choreography. Since then he has both painted and performed; seeking to balance the physical, spiritual, Intellectual, emotional and sensual in his work. He has exhibited his paintings sporadically, and worked in a myriad of professions, including private and adjunct faculty work at the University level as a teacher of movement technique and dance composition. He has and continues to teach painting and drawing privately, and enjoys serving as a guest lecturer and critic on all things visual. In 2004 he returned to student life, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. Thereafter, he entered Arizona State University where in 2008 he earned a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. At ASU he developed choreographic strategies for technologically mediated performance environments and studied video and poetry writing. He has since been moving between the US and Europe where he has been performing, teaching, and developing a collaborative experimental performance training, while continuing his painting, poetry, and video practices.
